One of the best things about the #SnoozefestatBedhead Book Release Pajama Party was having TheHappenBooth!
They make a custom photo booth (to match the theme of your party) and then PRESTO! Make branded photos for ya!
These are some of the highlights from our party! (“in bed!”)
WE BUILT IT!
Endless thanks to the team (Liesl & Christine Villaseñor & the one & only Jesse Klausmeier) for all their help and generosity. You made this author’s dream come true! Plus Team Bedhead! Never can thank you enough!
What author gets to take over a store window on W. 3rd Street in glamorous LA?
It will be up and in all its shining slothy Snoozefest glory March 18–April 8, 2015
Once upon a time, a girl went to Costa Rica and fell in love with a sloth.
That girl also happened to love music.
And pajamas. And sleeping. Like, a lot.
So the girl wrote a book about a sloth who loves sleeping, and goes to a music festival called Snoozefest, for the world’s greatest sleepers.
And The girl partnered with her very favorite pajama company, @bedheadpajamas.
She even put them in the book’s “Bedication.”
And the girl made a hip-hop song to go with the book with her brother @djmightymi and the legendary MC #ChubbRock.
And together, with a little help from her friends, (meaning a lot) they designed and built the Bedhead store window…
invited all of their friends…
and March 21, 2015, they threw the book release party of the year, in pajamas, and made that girl’s dreams come true.
That girl was me.
That party was a everything.
Here comes more…

Every classic picture book deserves its own anthem.
That’s why my brother DJ MightyMi and I got together and made a hip-hop song of my brand new picture book #Snoozefest. Mi asked one of our favorite legendary MCs Chubb Rock. And when Chubb agreed, I danced to Treat Em Right for a full hour and then fainted.
The song, along with a capella and instrumental versions are available on itunes now! id959125384
Here is a hearty sample we used to make the BOOK TRAILER!
I couldn’t ever have made this without the help of my dear friends at Cause & [Effect] media (who are the BEST!). The best. Not to mention, my brother and the amazing Chubb Rock.
Hope you enjoy and share!
SNOOZEFEST HIT THE WORLD!
It was an amaaaazing countdown to the release of my newest book.
Let me add two things here:
1) You can take the girl out of Promos, but you can’t take promos out of the girl. I HAVE TO PROMOTE MY BOOKS! Hey, if I don’t get behind it, who will?
2) IT IS SO MUCH FUN to make promos when you don’t have a committee of executives weighing in, and you don’t have rules, standards or practices.
These were the countdowns leading up to the release date.
AND IN ONE DAY…
AND THEN THE BIG DAY….
* I knew I wanted to do this concept and play with the phrases so they’d be a beautiful hybrid of ROCK and SLEEP, and so I wrote a bunch. Then my dear friend Greg Alkalay, of the kid entertainment company BatteryPop executed all the Photoshopping and real work. Then he came up with a bunch of brilliant ones I never would have. I could not have pulled this off without Greg and owe him eternal thanks.
My friend Manny Galan also chimed in with both brain brilliance and exceptional executional skills.
I am so grateful for his help an collaborative efforts always.
So lucky to have such good friends
Thank you with all my heart.
And to everyone online who was inspired to make their OWN and send them to me. I lovvvved them all!
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
and books, books, books on the scene!
The year kicks off with our brand new book A CRANKENSTEIN VALENTINE!
It’s written by me, illustrated by Dan Santat and published by the good folks at Little, Brown.
It’s the sequel to Crankenstein, uh-duh.
He’s baaaaaaack, and he’s crankier than ever, just in time for the world’s most lovey-lovey, mushy-gushy, syrupy sweet Hallmark Holiday.
How does he feel about this Holiday?
I made a book trailer with my friends at Cause & Effect, that says it ALL!
So far, it’s gotten a great response.
Here’s one cranky kid’s real response to the trailer.
I think my job here is done.
Just like the title suggests, it was indeed a big week in Berger Bookland.
On Monday, Publishers Weekly and Publishers Marketplace announced our *BIG* new book deal: The amaaaaazing Martha Brockenbrough and I will be co-authoring TWO new picture books for Arthur A. Levine!
Martha is an expert on Bigfoot.
I have big feet.
Arthur Levine is as big as it gets.
This was a collaboration BOUND to happen.
Martha and I celebrated by getting matching Bigfoot sweaters, and taking blurry photos of ourselves running through the woods.
Here’s the announcement.
On Monday eve, I was at the Books of Wonder Holiday Party, and then singing karaoke with Mike Curato, Ruth Chan, Caron Levis, Michael Buckley, Alison Fargis, and the great Paul Zelinsky. A great moment in children’s books.
On Tuesday, I found out my new book SNOOZEFEST (coming this January) made Buzzfeed’s 25 ABSURDLY DELIGHTFUL BOOKS TO READ WITH YOUR KIDS IN 2015 LIST! As Roger Daltry said, “YEAAAAAAAAAH!”
Some of my publishing pals are also on here like Debbie Ridpath Ohi, Greg Pizzoli, Sophie Blackall, and Scott Campbell. ALL the books look FANTASTIC.
On Wednesday, I met with my pals at Cause and Effect about making the Crankenstein Valentine book trailer.
On Thursday, SCBWI Team Captain, and all around swell guy, ran an interview with Dan Santat and me, about Crankenstein winning the Crystal Kite Award for NY. What an honor.
Here it is!
And then today…
The very first printed copy of A CRANKENSTEIN VALENTINE arrived on my doorstep.
There’s nothing like seeing your book in print for the very first time.
BEHOLD THE CRANKENGLORY!!
So any moment now, I will STOP talking about my own books!
…But maybe not this moment.
Thank you to everyone who supports my work and me.
It means the world.
Yes, I am still making these daily.
Here are the first 36, in the order I made them, in handy GRID form!
This past week, I continue my “EPUNymous Portrait Series.” One a day. A creative warm-up, like stretching. Here’s what happened, in chronological order.
Then, the next day, on October 13th…
The next day, October 14th, this happened.
October 16th, 2014…
October 17, 2014…
End of the night.
Almost didn’t happen.
But then it did.
